This workshop is a crash course in creating designs from texts, including construction of a model box and costume design.

Taught by Alison Neighbour, participants will learn:

  • The role of the designer and the other roles that make design possible
  • How to approach different types of spaces and how to read a scale plan
  • Tips for being kind to the environment and realising designs on a budget, with a handbook full of tips on where to source & recycle your set
  • How to break into the business
  • And more!

Alison Neighbour is a scenographer working in theatre, dance, installation, and site-specific environments. Her process involves experiment and play with materials, structures, texture, and movement, always working closely in response to space and environment. She transforms spaces and tells stories visually, using design to connect people and place, and giving audiences agency. Her work includes text based, devised, and self-led projects.

Alison trained at RADA and is represented by The Designer’s Formation. She is a resident at Pervasive Media Studio and Associate Artist at the Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury | Read more
