This visual arts exhibition in Applecart's Exhibition Space highlights the Headway community and its relationships with a focus on embroidered artworks. Reflecting on friendships, members and memories, The works include the group presentations Sew Bros and Sister Stitch, as well as the intimate embroidery, My Mother by Claudine Roux. Adjacent to these fantastic stitched artworks is the collaged brain sculpture, Waking up to my Destiny, by Dave Mercer.

Last summer, more than 5,500 people visited Headway East London’s differently various, a 10-day takeover of The Curve gallery at the Barbican and the largest exhibition co-produced by people living with brain injury.

This year, they are touring the artwork from the show to local community venues, alongside workshops, events and screenings between March and July 2024.

Supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England, differently various in different spaces will include four exhibitions and a series of public events including collaborative art workshops and member led training sessions that reach all 13 boroughs in Headway East London’s catchment area.

You are invited to follow the exhibition trail, so you can see more differently various artwork, while meeting local members and learning about their story and their experience of life after brain injury.

differently various in different spaces is part of Headway East London’s 25th Anniversary Heritage Project, which includes setting up an archive to document their 25 years of history and making a film about their work to support people living with brain injury.
