Newham Unlocked Festival
Stop by and create your own automata - a small mechanical sculpture that comes to life with simple cams, levers, and linkages. On its own or in a collection, automatas tell a fun and engaging story. We’ll create automatas representing some of our favourite things about Newham, and watch them interact in an entertaining visual story.
We’ll make automatas from cardboard, foam, and other recycled bits that we’ll repurposed into wonderful works of art. Participants are encouraged to bring any bits of scrap material they have lying around at home such as fabric, buttons, ribbon, or sparkles - We’ll upcycle it into something fun! During this drop in workshop, we’ll learn the basics of making automatas, and create our own inspired by our favourite things in Newham and London.
