At Applecart Arts, we take our responsibility to the environment seriously, and we're always looking for ways to be more eco-friendly. One of the most significant changes we've made is replacing all the lighting fixtures in our venue with energy-efficient LED lights. This small step has made a big difference, reducing our energy consumption and carbon footprint while still providing bright and vibrant lighting for our events.

We're also committed to using local suppliers for our café whenever possible, ensuring that our food and drink have as small a carbon footprint as possible. Our café even uses veg grown locally in the park by the park keepers, which means that it has a carbon footprint of just a short walk across the park. Any excess coffee grounds or veg waste is given to the park keepers to use in their compost, which is then used to keep the park looking beautiful.

We encourage our audiences to come to us via public transport, walking, or cycling, and we have secure cycle parking available for up to six bikes in our car park, which is sheltered and covered by CCTV. We also work with people who live in Newham or nearby whenever possible, with over half of our staff based in the local area.

We're also moving towards a paperless office, minimising how much we need to print in our office wherever possible. We encourage visiting companies to consider what they are printing, preferring QR codes to online programmes wherever possible. Our tickets for events and shows are entirely paperless, and we encourage audiences to keep their tickets solely on their mobile devices wherever possible.

Our building was even built using second-hand materials wherever possible. Our café furniture was second-hand and upcycled by our team, and the paint used to bring a new lease of life to the café was recycled paint from a specialist local supplier. The main sources of heat for our building come from heat pumps, the most environmentally friendly way of heating a building.
